A Family Comes Courting…

The Amish Spinster Club series begins!

With his orphaned nephew depending on him, Amish carpenter Eli Troyer moves to Harmony Creek Hollow to start over. And when schoolteacher Miriam Hartz offers to teach Eli, who is hard of hearing, how to read lips, he can’t refuse. Spending time with Miriam forges a bond between them. Can two wounded hearts overcome their pasts to make a family together?

Eli Troyer is an Amish carpenter and has recently moved to Harmony Creek Hollow as he is now caring for his orphaned nephew. Eli feels blessed when the schoolteacher, Miriam Hartz offers to work with Eli, who is hard of hearing. Miriam is confident that she will be able to teach Eli to read lips.

In this sweet story, the time that Eli and Miriam spend together brings them very close. However, they both have sad pasts that might prevent them from ever finding happiness with each other. Eli's sadness is bone deep and it was very heartwarming to read this story as Miriam learned to work past her sadness in order to reach him.

Miriam has her own reason for sadness. She had planned on marrying but her intended chose someone else. Her pain was palpable. No wonder neither of them were prepared to find happiness and joy in their lives.

The Amish Suitor is an endearing story. I actually purchased this book because I had the third book in the series for review. As I am dedicated to reading series, I gladly obtained the prior books. While this book by Jo Ann Brown is my first read, it certainly won't be my last.

The other books in the series are The Amish Christmas Cowboy, The Amish Bachelor's Baby and the upcoming The Amish Widower's Twins.

Jo Ann Brown has been creating characters and stories for as long as she can remember. Her first stories were populated with her friends and sisters. She wrote her first novel in high school, and it happily resides in the forgotten depths of her file cabinet. Fast forward through college, serving in the US Army as a quartermaster officer, getting married, and increasing her blessings with three children...and Jo Ann sold her first book in 1987. Since it was published in 1988, she has sold over 100 titles and has become a best-selling and award-winning author. Romantic Times called her “a truly talented author.” She writes romance, mystery, and YA under a variety of pen names. Now she is writing Amish romances for Love Inspired and Annie’s Fiction as Jo Ann Brown.

Her books have been translated into nearly a dozen languages and are sold on every continent except Antarctica. A sought-after speaker, she has been teaching creative writing for over 20 years, and she established several popular fiction courses at Brown University. She resides in Florida with her husband and about a zillion little lizards in her yard.

  1. I love Amish stories for their sweetness and their light, easy summer feel. Thanks for the review!

  2. I tend to avoid anything religious

  3. Nice review. I don't do religious books though so wouldn't be for me.

  4. Good review but not my type of read.
