BLOG TOUR - The Marriage Betrayal

Today is my stop on the Blog Tour for The Marriage Betrayal by Shalini Boland.

DESCRIPTION:

‘Daddy has been lying.’

Faye Townsend has planned the perfect summer trip for her family. But returning to the small seaside town her husband grew up in does not go to plan, the rain pours and the long days become stifling. And then the unthinkable happens…

Her husband Jake and her six-year-old son Dylan go for an early morning walk along the beautiful, windswept clifftops. They don’t come back.

As the hours tick by, Dylan’s red baseball cap is found on the beach and Faye finds herself being questioned by the police. They want to know everything about the man she married - is Faye ready to face her husband’s dark past? Or will she have to confront her own secrets first?

And just how far will a mother go to save her only child?

From the million-copy-bestselling author of The Secret Mother and The Perfect Family, this utterly gripping psychological thriller will make you gasp out loud as you race towards the unforgettable twist. If you loved The Girl on the Train and The Wife Before You this book is for you.

MY THOUGHTS:

Title:   The Marriage Betrayal
Author:  Shalini Boland
Genre:   Psychological Thriller
Publisher:  Bookouture
Format:  Kindle ARC
No. of Pages:   273
Date of Publication:  July 8, 2019
My Rating:  5 Stars

Faye Townsend has the perfect week planned for her husband's birthday. She and her brother-in-law Tom hope that her husband Jake and sister Lainey will enjoy being back in their hometown for a week. However, no one is happy and they decide to return home earlier. The day they plan to leave, Jake and their seven-year-old son Dylan plan to spend the morning touring. They never return.

Panicked Faye and Tom begin searching. Finding nothing, they go to the police, who take the matter quite seriously. A vast search for Jake and Dylan begins but nets very few clues.

While the search ensues, the story goes back and forth between Jake and Lainey's past. There are things about Jake that are rather unnerving and it is at this point that things begin clicking into place for the reader.

This story by Shalini Boland is told with incredible tension. There are a couple of massive twists in the story that literally had my jaw hanging open. The Marriage Betrayal is a great psychological thriller that just may shock the reader. I love stories where it turns out that nothing is as it seems. That is what happened in this book for me. Finding the "ah" moment was incredibly satisfying.

Reading this book was quite like putting the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle together. I love how it was written and I also love how I was thrown off. Oh, and that ending! This is definitely a Wow! book and easily reminds me why I love this author so much. Discussing this book with another reader was a lovely bonus.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.
