BLOG TOUR - The Crying House

DESCRIPTION
:

Strands of blonde hair escape from beneath the sheet and catch the dawn light creeping through the window. Silence falls as the fabric is drawn back to reveal the body of a young girl, her hands folded on her chest, her long lashes resting on her cold, pale cheeks.

When Detective Casey White finds the body of a teenager perfectly preserved in salt in an abandoned beach vacation home, her heart shatters. Tina Somners has been missing since she set off to meet her friends for spring break. With her own daughter missing too, Casey knows how devastated the girl’s parents will be at this tragic end to their search.

Pushing her pain aside, Casey delves into old files and gets her first lead: years ago, a man murdered his wife and left her the same way. But he’s been locked up in prison all this time…

Interviewing him, Casey is certain the now frail and elderly prisoner couldn’t have hurt Tina himself. But is he somehow pulling strings from behind bars?

Then another perfectly preserved body is found, a threatening note addressed to Casey herself clutched in the girl’s hand. Running out of time and leads, Casey is hit with a realization that turns her blood to ice: her own daughter could be next…

An absolutely unputdownable read that will have you reading late into the night and gasping at the shocking twists. Perfect for fans of Kendra Elliot, Robert Dugoni and Melinda Leigh.

Genre:   Mystery/Thrillers
Format:  Kindle ARC
No. of Pages:   281

My Rating:   4 Stars

Detective Casey White is truly saddened to have discovered the body of a teen girl during her most recent case. However, as other police are searching the house where the body was found, they discover another body, one that is nearly perfectly preserved.

While Casey works hard at solving the current cases, she cannot help but look closely at every female body found or reported missing - as it has been several years since her own daughter has gone missing. Will one of these found be the one to truly break her heart?

Beyond that concern that is never far from her mind, Casey discovers a note addressed to her in the hand of one of the bodies that have been found. This note is addressed to Casey herself. However, this brings older cases to mind, but that person of interest is old and frail - and is behind bars. There must be a connection, but what is it?

Casey has a bit to prove with these cases. She was recently injured and has just returned from leave. She is pleased to have been assigned the cases, even with the sadnes and danger they evoke. Casey has strong allies. One is Jericho Flynn, a Marine Patrol officer and the love of her life. Another is Dr. Swales, the medical examiner. Both are instrumental in the investigation and prove to be strong anchors for Casey. There is another member to her team and I cannot wait to see how that character arc grows within the series.

There is a likely suspect as the investigation progresses. But things are not always as they seem. Casey plows on as best she can to eliminate any possible suspects while hoping for no more bodies to be found. With twists and turns and constant danger, plus the overwhelming sadness regarding Casey's daughter Hannah who was abducted at a very young age, The Crying House is a compelling read, one filled with intensity so vivid that it was literally impossible to put down.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
