DESCRIPTION:

Second chances come at the most unexpected times…

Widow Laura Beth Yoder longs for a family of her own. So much so that she’s preparing to leave the sleepy Amish town she calls home to find love. But a terrible storm washes out the creek, forcing her to wade in and save the life of an Englisch man and his adorable infant son. As they recover at the farm, the baby brings sunshine and joy, while the handsome outsider is filled with shadows…and secrets.

Joshua King owes his life and his son’s to Laura Beth. Still, lingering at her farm is out of the question. He must fulfill a promise he made to his estranged wife on her deathbed: to deliver their son to his Amish in-laws. With his dark past, Joshua has no other choice. But his plans never took this sweet and surprising Amish widow into account. She just might be his second chance at happiness…and love.

MY THOUGHTS:

Laura Beth Yoder is a widow and she is very much longing for a family. Love is nowhere to be found, she she plans on leaving the Amish community that she calls home. However, when a storm occurs, she is fortunate enough to save the life of a man and his baby, Englishers. The man and child begin to recover at Laura Beth's farm, and along the way, feelings begin to grow. However, the fact that he is English is a problem in a big way, then add to the fact that he is a man with secrets, there certainly isn't anything for Laura Beth to wish for.

Why is Joshua King there anyway? He was married to a formerly Amish woman and on her deathbed, he promised to take their child to her parents. However, it is not that black and white Joshua. In fact, there are things in his past that just might soon come to light. Can Joshua overcome his past, keep his child and find love? What a tall order to consider for a couple who just about have love right within their grasp.

What an endearing story. I have read a handful of Amish fiction stories of late where one is Amish and the other English. It is always interesting to see how the author balances such a relationship while holding true to long-standing customs.

The Wish tells a remarkable love story that deals with secrets, love, faith and hope. It is a very well-written book an an excellent start to a new series.  I have the next two books in the series for review, The Hope and The Promise, but I was thrilled to pick this up from Amazon in order to read it before moving on to the other two books.

DESCRIPTION:

He thought he’d never settle down…until he found home.

Amish widow Ruth Mast wants nothing to do with the handsome man from her past who just returned to Cedar Grove. Ruth learned the hard way that Owen Mast’s restlessness always causes trouble. But when a little Amish girl appears on Owen’s porch, lost and afraid, Ruth has no choice but to help the man who only ever causes heartbreak…

All Owen wanted was to make amends with Ruth and her family. He never imagined that little girl Grace—or the strange mystery surrounding her—would bring him closer to Ruth. Or that a tender and unexpected attraction would quickly take hold of them both. But even a wandering heart can grow roots…when there is hope for love.

MY THOUGHTS:

In this second story in the Amish of Cedar Grove series by Patricia Davids, the female protagonist is another Amish widow. When Ruth Mast runs into someone from her past, her husband's cousin Owen Mast, this bring her no joy at all. However, Owen came back to Cedar Grove with purpose. He wants to set matters right with Ruth and her family. Meanwhile, one day a little Amish girl name Grace just happened to come to his doorstep. Who is this little girl and what role will she end up playing in something forever happening between Owen and Ruth?

Ruth simply has no use for Owen. They share a difficult past and she treats him with disdain. Owen handles Ruth quite well. He shows remarkable fortitude and kindness. Meanwhile, while Ruth and Owen have their interactions, there is still the mystery of little Grace.

Having read just a few of Patricia Davids' books before reading The Hope, and The Wish, the first book in this series, I easily downloaded these books without reading the blurbs. I know going in that her books will have remarkable storytelling, strong emotionalism, and the sweet satisfaction of happily ever after. I definitely got what I was looking for when I read this book. And, as soon as I finished this, I read the next book in the series, The Promise.

Many thanks to HQN Books and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Sometimes love is where you least expect it…

Sarah Yoder has always dreamed of having a family of her own. But with no eligible prospects, she’s beginning to worry—until the Rabor brothers return to Cedar Grove. Sarah and Isaac Rabor walked out together the summer they were sixteen, so perhaps he’s the answer to her prayers. The only trouble is that she can’t seem to catch his eye. If only she had a little help…

Levi Rabor has no interest in marriage. When his mother reveals her plans to deed the family farm to the first son who marries, Levi has a plan to ensure that it isn’t him: a pretend courtship with Sarah to nudge his competitive brother in her direction. Once Isaac is married, Levi can leave town to train racehorses—just as he wanted. So why does Sarah—with her vision of a peaceful, happy life on the land—make his heart gallop? Perhaps the answer lies in how sweetly surprising love can be.

MY THOUGHTS:

Levi Rabor has a plan. He knows Sarah Yoder likes his brother Isaac. He remembered when they were teens that that had briefly dated. Levi agrees with Sarah to pretend they are courting to make his brother jealous. Since Levi is planning on leaving town once Isaac is married and settled, things couldn't happen fast enough. Surprisingly, Levi finds that this plan just might not be a good idea. He begins to see Sarah in a new light. How this will affect his future plans only time will tell.

Besides growing feelings between Sarah and Levi, there is the feeling of discontent that Isaac faces. However, the brothers are dedicated to their mother, who is dealing with ill health, and they try and focus their attention on her needs. For them to pay attention to what might make their hearts sing is just not on the agenda.

I loved this story. For one thing, it was sort of one of second chances, at least when Sarah was pursuing Isaac. But watching this story go beyond a relationship that just not be destined, Sarah falling for Levi was done quite well. This story also shows the strong family bonds that exist in the Rabor family. And most importantly, faith is a huge factor when it comes to choices and the future.

This is another remarkable story by Patricia Davids. The characters are lovely, and this is a very touching story of love being found unexpectedly. I am not sure if this is a trilogy or if there will be more in this series, but whatever the case, I most certainly will be reading the next book that Ms. Davids writes.

Many thanks to HQN Books and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
