BLOG TOUR - The Family Home

DESCRIPTION:

There’s a dead man in my apartment. Only me and my ex have a key. But neither of us would have done this. We have too much to lose...

I wake on the sofa, my head throbbing. How did I get here? In the darkness, I make my way to my bedroom. I turn on the lights. And then I scream.

There’s a body in my bed. And I know this man: we went on two dates together. Who could have killed him? And how did he get in? Only two people have a key to the house: me and my ex-husband Matthew.

I trust Matthew. With what we’re hiding, I have to. And I can’t risk the police digging into our past, or learning about the night when we drank champagne on the cliff and ruined everything.

Someone knows our secret. We have to find out what they want. But am I wrong to believe Matthew, when I know how well he can lie? And how can I save myself, when the truth might destroy me?

An absolutely gripping thriller that will keep you reading late into the night, unable to put the book down for a second. Perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn, Ruth Ware and Lisa Jewell.

MY THOUGHTS:

Title:   The Family Home
Author:  Miranda Smith
Publisher:  Bookouture
Genre:   Psychological Thriller
Format:  Kindle ARC
No. of Pages:   289
Date of Publication:   October 3, 2022
My Rating:   5 Stars

Lillian and Matthew have an amicable divorce due to their young daughter Mabel. There is another reason for their quiet agreement to remain close. It involves a secret that if revealed could cost them everything. They share an apartment and a beautiful family home. However, they are never in the same residence at the same time. Taking turns in each residence in order to continue to provide Mabel a stable home.

One night Lillian has a few drinks with Matthew's girlfriend. She arrives home a bit worse for wear and falls asleep on the couch. When she awakens and approaches her bedroom, she is shocked to discover a dead body on her bed, covered in blood. In a panic, the first call she places is to Matthew. He tells her to hang up and to ring the police.

As the police investigate they are confused as to how close Lillian and Matthew seem, and this is at every turn. Meanwhile, Lillian pursues her own investigation. She knows more than she has shared with the police, and if she does not get to the bottom of as to why the man was killed in her apartment, she and Matthew could lose everything.

What a thrilling, fast-paced story! I could not put this book down! While this multi-layered story began to unfold and as things slowly fell into place, I felt like I was reaching the end of a very enjoyable jigsaw puzzle. However, things just might not wrap up just as nicely for Lillian and Matthew. So, grab this book, shut your phone off, and plan on reading late into the night, because The Family Home is certain to keep you riveted.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
