Why are there so many happy couples sharing a kiss as the clock strikes midnight to ring in the new year? Kate grabs a napkin to write down her resolution. She will find someone to kiss before next New Year’s Eve. Kate has been alone far too long and her busiest nights are spent in front of the television watching Netflix. Life just has to have more to offer. There has to more to life. There has to be a man out there for Kate.
So Kate embarks on a few routes to find a man. Online dating. Speed dating. Even being set up. Will one of the men that contacts her be “the one”? Kate is not alone on this journey. She has best friend Julie and Julie’s brother Ben right there for support. They have both stood by her for years and are not about to leave her on her own now.
While this book might be a romantic comedy there are some very serious moments as this book deals with some serious issues. These issues include anxiety and how it has a strong impact on one of the character’s life. There is another aspect of mental health that comes up and that issue brings a sense of levity, a sense of healing, to this enjoyable story.
Kate suffered a low level of self esteem for most of her life and this eventually had an impact on her relationship with Julie. Another thing about Kate’s life involved Ben, and I really like how that part of the story developed.
With characters in their forties, this gave this book an extra push for me. While I did enjoy the laughs generated by this story, it was the more serious issues and moments that really made this book work for me.
