DESCRIPTION:

Patricia Johns’ sensitive storytelling brings depth and heart to this tender story of second chances, as an Amish woman embarks on marriage with the gruff farmer next door . . .

Once, Leah Riehl prayed for a husband. The man she loved chose another, wanting the children that Leah can’t provide. But she’s found a measure of peace, keeping house for her brother, Simon, and teaching in a nearby town. Now though, Simon’s debts to an Englisher gambling ring have left Leah with a desperate dilemma—and a surprising offer from her scarred, reclusive neighbor. Jebadiah King needs to marry in order to claim his family farm. A union, for appearances only, will help them both.

Jeb knows his scars make him a less than ideal husband, but he can be a useful one. It’s the least that Leah deserves. But despite the promises he made to himself, Jeb can’t help longing for his lovely, warmhearted new wife. His first marriage brought heartbreak, but Leah’s gentle smiles spark hope again. Are they willing to take the leap that love requires—and open themselves to all the challenges and joy a true marriage could bring?

MY THOUGHTS:

Jebediah King thought he would never married. This was in large part due to the scars that marred his appearance. Meanwhile, Jeb finds himself in a difficult situation. He could lose his family farm unless he marries. As things turn out, the woman he chooses is in a difficult situation herself. Her brother has become addicted to gambling and Leah agrees to marry Jeb in order to help settle her brother's debts.

In the Amish community, Leah was like most women, one who wanted children. However, this was not possible for her and the man she thought she would marry could not accept that. Agreeing to a marriage of convenience appears to be Leah's only option. It might be slow at first but Leah and Jeb start to grow fond of one another. In fact, feelings neither ever expected soon grow to love.

Patricia Johns is one of my favorite inspirational authors. Her stories always inspire love, hope and comfort.

Many thanks to Zebra Books and to NetGalley for this ARC to review. This is my honest opinion.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

I am a Harlequin author who writes for the Love Inspired, Western/American Romance and Heartwarming lines. I have recently signed a book deal with Kensington Books for Amish romance, so in 2019, you’ll find me being published by both Harlequin and Kensington. You can find my books in any place that books are sold. I am represented by Rachel Beck of Holloway Literary.

I have my Hon. BA in English Literature from University of Toronto, and I live in Northern Canada where the weather dominates our small talk. Mr. Johns has the distinct challenge of being married to a writer, and our young son has yet to be impressed by seeing his mother’s books on a store shelf. 😉 It’s the perfect life for me.
