DESCRIPTION:

She cannot resist the man behind the mask...

As the illegitimate daughter of a Scottish earl, Lady Magdalen Keith is not one to partake in lavish balls or other frivolities. Yet at her father's urging, she agrees to dance with the battle-weary officers at this year's holiday masquerade. It's practically her civic duty! But when one such officer—whose dashing good looks cannot be disguised by a mere mask—sweeps her off her feet and into his arms, the innocent lass can't help herself. Her lips are his for the taking.

But will he betray his country for a kiss?

Navy lieutenant Aiden Murray has spent too many months at sea to be immune to the charms of this lovely beauty. Even after he returns to his ship, she lives in his dreams. But when he discovers Maddie's true identity—and learns that her father is accused of treason—will the brawny Scot risk his life to follow his heart?

MY THOUGHTS:

Lady Magdalen Keith is indeed the daughter of an Earl in 1700s Scotland, yet she is illegitimate. She does her father’s bidding and attends a holiday masquerade ball to dance with soldiers in an effort to lift their spirits. One soldier in particular truly catches her attention, even through his mask.

Lord Aiden Murray is a navy lieutenant who has been away at see for several months. He sees a beautiful lass and they share a kiss. The kiss they share at the ball will be with them for a long time to come.

Aiden cannot stop thinking about Magdalen, but he can’t imagine ever seeing her again. Not only does he get that very opportunity, he discovers who she is, and that her father has been accused of treason and may very well be hanged. Aiden is willing to risk just about anything to help Magdalen get her father freed.

Quite a lot happens while Aiden seeks to help Magdalen, but circumstances change and her skills as a superior harpist changes things for her. Between that and the political climate, the intrigue and action reaches a high level. Meanwhile, Aiden and Magdalen throw caution to the wind as their relationship blossoms.

Amy Jarecki does a fantastic job of mixing true Scottish history with fiction and it is indeed fantastic mix. There are lots of twists and turns, drama, danger and lots of loving going on. The story has a riveting and dramatic conclusion.

This is the second book in the Lords of the Highland series. The other books that have been released are, The Highland Duke, The Highland Guardian and The Highland Chieftain. The Highland Renegade and The Highland Earl are due for publication in 2019.
