TO PURCHASE:
One of my dear friends and her husband recently visited Scotland for a Special Convention. Despite their busy itinerary, they managed to create many cherished memories and make new friends on their journey. Among the delightful souvenirs they brought back was a charming little book titled The Orkney Chicken Saga, which I was kindly gifted to review.
This delightful little book has many positive aspects. In fact, I was about to read it when two of my grandchildren arrived for the afternoon. Earlier that day, I had discovered the Wild Spark Publishing YouTube channel. The captivating video narration, perfect rhymes, and enchanting illustrations made it an ideal choice to share this charming story with my grandchildren.
How might this book be received by children and classrooms worldwide? I believe it has the potential to be incredibly popular, and I must say that the incredible illustrations play a significant role in this. Even non-readers are likely to be drawn to this book due to its vivid and captivating visuals.
Furthermore, this book affords the opportunity to work as an excellent teaching tool. It allows children to learn about different parts of the world and the fact that there are children like them everywhere. However, this book goes beyond being simply cute. It tells a true story about the Orkney Chicken Saga, which occurred in January 1952 due to devastatingly severe storm winds. While the book takes a lighter approach to this historical event, it can be a valuable resource for older children to discuss its impact on Orkney, Scotland.
As this is the first in a series of books with Charlie the Chicken, I hope that somehow these additional books get into my hands. As a lover of books, and more importantly, as a Nana, I would love to pass these wonderful stories along.
If you want to see why you might want to order this book for the littles in your life, please watch the cute animation video
