DESCRIPTION:

There are two sides to every marriage. But what if they’re both a lie?

Jodie dotes on her husband and two teenagers. Racing home from a shift at the hospital to cook dinner, or tracking their phones to make sure they’re safe, she’s always putting her family first. But she doesn’t always tell the truth… She’s worked too hard to build this cookie-cutter life and will do anything to protect it.

Sam is a detective. He loves Jodie but he’s the first to admit that he’s married to his job. He recently snapped at work, and now his colleagues are gossiping about his anger issues. At home, he tells Jodie he’s taking work calls, but he’s not. Sam is up to something much worse.

One night, their home is broken into and their precious daughter Sofia is attacked. When the police pick through the ruins of their perfect life they find that nothing is as it seems. Why was Jodie crying in the pub that evening, leaving Sam home alone with a bottle of whisky? Where was Sofia sneaking out of the house to? And who was their son talking to online?

The secrets this husband and wife are keeping are just the beginning, and someone is about to pay a deadly price…

Readers of The Housemaid, The Perfect Marriage and The Girl on the Train will not be able to put this totally thrilling and absolutely jaw-dropping psychological thriller down!

MY THOUGHTS:

Jodie, a devoted wife and mother, believes she has the perfect life. She’s married to Sam, a detective with a short temper, and thanks to a tracking app, she always knows where her two teenagers are. But a break-in at their home turns their world upside down when their daughter, Sofia, is brutally attacked and killed. The cracks that already existed in Jodie and Sam’s marriage begin to widen, and in the aftermath of such unimaginable tragedy, those cracks seem almost impossible to repair.

There is another couple at the heart of this story, Chloe and Jared, who are also the parents of a teenager. As their story becomes intertwined with Jodie and Sam’s, it becomes clear that both couples are hiding secrets. And where there are secrets, there are inevitably lies, suspicion, and a growing lack of trust.

What an intense and emotionally charged story! Mr & Mrs is ultimately a story about broken families, devastating loss, secrets, and the ways tragedy can expose the cracks in relationships that may have been there all along. Sheryl Browne does an excellent job creating an atmosphere filled with tension and uncertainty, while also bringing a deep emotional edge to the story. I was drawn into these families and their complicated lives, wondering just how much more they could endure before everything completely fell apart.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
