BLOG TOUR - Taken in the Dark

DESCRIPTION:

“Please, we want to go home…” The children are crying, their voices pleading. But the figure they call to only stares at them in silence, and locks the door.

Jen Logan is living her dream life on the water in a small community in Florida. Content with her husband and twins, she feels settled and at peace in nature. But when frightening notes start appearing in her home—signed simply by Invisible—her perfect world shatters.

Then she arrives home to find flowers placed all over her house, and the gift passed down through her family tells her she’s in terrible danger. The delicate white blooms of the oleander plant are an omen of death, and whoever is sending them knows this too. But why are they targeting her, and what do they want?

Before Jen can begin to find the culprit, her children are taken. In a shuddering heartbeat, she realizes that Invisible isn’t out to destroy her, but her family. And with the light fading and a storm brewing over the water, Jen knows there isn’t much time to find her children before darkness falls…

Can she find them before it’s too late? And if she does, will she do what it takes to stop Invisible forever?

This totally addictive thriller is perfect for anyone looking for an unputdownable read packed with unguessable twists, and for fans of Rachel Caine, Melinda Leigh and Mary Kubica.

MY THOUGHTS:

Jennifer Turner is a psychologist and has recently began experiencing a slipping memory. Not only is this rather sudden, she begins to doubt her perfect life with her husband Benjamin.  In fact, Jen often wonders if she is being gaslit, but she has no proof. Thankfully, her grandmother Victoria and her sister Annie visit when they realize that things are not just quite right with Jen.

Aside from her own worries, Jen feels more than impelled to help her friend Sharon, a sad victim of domestic abuse. Even though Jen is experiencing her own troubles, she gives much of herself and her time to Sharon. Just like in the first book about the Logan sisters, Jen has a gift, a strong intuition that things are quite off-balance. With strange occurrences happening over and over again, Jen is in quite a quandary. In fact, Jen begins to doubt the very ones in her close circle. Jen is not only worried for herself, but also for her children.

What an exciting thriller by Peggy Webb. A perfect second to Black Crow Cabin, which was Rachel’s story. Without a Trace is Annie’s story, set for release in September. These Logan sisters have their gifts, but they also have danger up front and present in their lives. While reading Jen’s story, the sense of urgency was powerful, and my attention was riveted right from the start.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
