BLOG TOUR - Silent Ridge

DESCRIPTION:

One bath wall is a mural of a brilliant-yellow sunflower. The theme carries over to the shower curtains, but the yellow vinyl is spattered with red blotches. Propped against the mirror is a South Kitsap High School photo of a teenaged girl.

Detective Megan Carpenter is no stranger to horrifying crime scenes, but when she arrives at the home of a woman whose body has been brutalized, Megan is shocked to discover that she knows the victim. Monique Delmont helped Megan when she was in danger years ago. And the killer has left a disturbing calling card… two laminated photographs of a sixteen-year-old high school girl – Megan.

Someone is taunting her in the worst way possible and Megan is convinced she knows who is responsible. She just has to find him.

With the help of her new partner, Deputy Ronnie Marsh, Megan begins to unravel the clues that will lead them to the killer including links to three female murder cases from nearly twenty years ago – one of which was Monique’s daughter.

But to protect those closest to her, Megan must continue to hide the dark truth of her past, even if that means lying to her team about her connection to Monique.

When two photographs of a teenage Megan are found at her boyfriend’s place in Snow Creek, she knows the killer is circling and ready to strike again.

Can she get to him before he finds her? And will she pay the ultimate price for trying to keep her terrifying past buried?

An addictive edge-of-your-seat crime thriller from the Number One, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today and Amazon Chart bestselling author.

MY THOUGHTS:

Title
:   Silent Ridge
Author:  Gregg Olsen
Series:  Detective Megan Carpenter #3
Publisher:  Bookouture
Genre:   Mystery/Thrillers
Format:  Kindle ARC
No. of Pages:   270
Date of Publication:   December 4, 2020
My Rating:   4 Stars

Megan Carpenter has made remarkable changes to her life, including becoming one of the best detective the Jefferson County Sheriff's office has ever had. However, she was not always known as Megan. This fact nearly begins to show itself when a woman has been brutally murdered and Megan realizes she knew the woman. What is more is that photographs were left at the scene, including one of Megan when she was a teen.

Megan is sure that the killer is after her and is leaving bread crumbs that lead directly to Megan and to a past she is desperate to keep secret from everyone including her colleagues. Not only must Megan search for answers at a rapid pace she is also getting to know her new partner, Deputy Ronnie Marsh. Can the two of them not only solve the murder that has taken place but also handle clues that lead back almost twenty years previously?

All while Megan is working the case, she is leading her own investigation, done in such a way to keep secrets from those working with her, including lying almost every step of the way. Can she get to the bottom of the murder and protect the past she is desperate to keep buried?

Having read the first two books in this series, Snow Creek and Water's Edge, I have really gotten to know Megan and her staunch work ethic, attention to detail and the strength she must show to have overcome a horrible past. This book, Silent Ridge, is just as intense as the previous books in this series. This one holds a lot of weight, because it is hair-raising to see what Megan is going through now and how everything she has gained could possibly be lost.

Because of the intensity of the current case and Megan's past, I do think readers would lend themselves well by reading the books in this series in order. As each book is fast-paced readers will no doubt be as drawn is as I was to this one. Especially due to the fact that Megan lied pretty much the entire way through this story, I was eager to see how Megan would overcome the odds of losing everything. This revenge-based story started off with a bang and kept up the pace from beginning to end.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
