I’m thrilled to have discovered this series! The first book, All the Pretty Girls, was published in 2008. I first discovered J. T. Ellison when she began co-writing the Brit in the FBI series with Catherine Coulter, and over the years, I’ve made an effort to read as many of her books as possible. Recently, I stumbled upon the Taylor Jackson series and have already made my way through the first four books. Next up is The Immortals, and I can’t wait to continue!
As mentioned, I’ve read the previous books in the series, and at the end of the third book, Judas Kiss, Taylor Jackson was demoted from lieutenant to detective. Still working in the homicide division, Taylor no longer has her own team and is now partnered with Renn McKenzie, a rookie detective who is about to be thrown into the deep end when they are faced with a horrifying series of murders.
While Taylor and McKenzie are in Tennessee working on a gruesome case, they are hunting a depraved killer who appears to be reenacting scenes from famous paintings. But that isn’t the only disturbing thing about these murders. The killer’s actions become increasingly chilling, leaving Taylor and McKenzie racing to figure out what he will do next.
Meanwhile, Taylor’s fiancé, Baldwin, a Special Agent and FBI profiler, is following a case in Europe. The similarities between the two cases are far too striking to be mere coincidence. Baldwin is partnered with Scotland Yard detective James “Memphis” Highsmythe, and while the two men work well together, Memphis seems to have another interest - Taylor.
I really enjoyed the way the story moves back and forth between the two locations and the separate investigations. As the cases begin to intersect and the teams eventually find themselves working side by side, the tension increases. Taylor also finds herself fighting an annoying attraction to Memphis, which certainly adds another layer to an already complicated situation.
But, of course, the personal drama has to take a back seat. Their priority is stopping these killers before anyone else becomes a victim.
This series just keeps getting better, and I’m thoroughly enjoying getting to know Taylor, Baldwin, and the rest of the characters as the story progresses. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what comes next!
