MY THOUGHTS:
Cathy, Frannie, and Joe share a terrible secret. The siblings are on vacation in Italy when Cathy and Joe receive a panicked call from their sister. Frannie has hit a man with her car. Instead of calling the police, she calls her siblings. She insistently tells them that it truly was an accident. Very quickly, they form a pact: they will bury the body and never tell anyone what happened.
Frannie is terrified of the possibility of ending up indefinitely in a foreign prison, but did the siblings do the right thing? All three protagonists are definitely flawed in this psychological thriller by Gillian McAllister, which made it fascinating to see how everything would play out.
As the police begin asking probing questions, the situation eventually leads to a trial. Soon, the carefully crafted stories the siblings have told begin to fall apart. While it was Frannie’s actions that set off this cascading series of events, the story moves between the accident and the trial that follows, slowly revealing more about what happened that night.
Amrita Acharia did an exceptional job with the narration of this thriller. Her British accent and the excellent pacing made this book delightful to listen to. This story delves into the complexities of ethics, loyalty, and the extreme measures we might take to safeguard those we hold dear. It prompts the reader to ponder whether they would be willing to go to such lengths for someone they love.
