DESCRIPTION:

Tabitha Schrock's return to Lancaster County shakes the foundations of her family and community. After her departure during rumspringa and a recent divorce, Tabitha faces the challenge of reintegrating into Amish society while pursuing her dream of working as a veterinarian. Meanwhile, her sister Amanda, whose own prospects were dimmed by Tabitha's leaving Shepherd's Hill, decides to seize her chance at love by pursuing a man with a shadowed past. And their youngest sister, Rose, despite her beauty and romantic hopes, faces the harsh realities of matrimony, grappling with the weight of vows made before Gott and her community.

As the sisters navigate the intricacies of love, faith, and tradition, they are bound by their commitment to uphold their Amish way of life. But as they strive to keep their promises, how much are they willing to sacrifice to remain true to themselves and their community?

MY THOUGHTS:

Tabitha Schrock, a divorced and successful veterinarian, has returned to her Amish community. She never lost her Amish roots, and there is where her heart remained. She understands that she will never remarry there, but she is not bothered by that. Her primary concern is the well-being of her sisters, Amanda and Rose. Rose, who is married, is unhappy, while Amanda, who is unmarried, is nearing spinsterhood. Moreover, Amanda’s prospects for marriage have been negatively impacted by Tabitha’s actions. If Tabitha can help either or both of her sisters, she will be content.

Green Pastures, the first book in Patricia Johns’ new series, transports readers to the warm and inviting Amish community of Lancaster County. I was captivated by all three Schrock sisters, particularly Tabitha’s exceptional veterinary skills. Rose’s story resonated with me, as divorce in the Amish community is a taboo subject. Despite this, we, as readers, yearned for her happiness. Amanda, facing limited prospects, finds love with a man who carries his own burdens. This captivating story left me eagerly anticipating the continuation of the series.

Many thanks to Bethany House Publishers and to NetGalley for this ARC to review. This is my honest opinion.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

I am a Harlequin author who writes for the Love Inspired, Western/American Romance and Heartwarming lines. I have recently signed a book deal with Kensington Books for Amish romance, so in 2019, you’ll find me being published by both Harlequin and Kensington. You can find my books in any place that books are sold. I am represented by Rachel Beck of Holloway Literary.

I have my Hon. BA in English Literature from University of Toronto, and I live in Northern Canada where the weather dominates our small talk. Mr. Johns has the distinct challenge of being married to a writer, and our young son has yet to be impressed by seeing his mother’s books on a store shelf. 😉 It’s the perfect life for me.
