BLOG TOUR - Final Victim

DESCRIPTION:

“Megan, you need to call me. Wallace was here. He left a message to say please don’t worry. He’s coming for you soon.” As I hang up the call, my blood runs cold. I’ve spent a lifetime running from this man. But as I look down at his next victim, their face frozen in one final moment of fear, I can’t escape the feeling that I will be next to die.

When the body of Detective Susan Dupont is discovered lying across the dividing line of two counties,
Detective Megan Carpenter is immediately called to the scene. When her body is examined they find a sharp piece of metal has been lodged in her eye. A detail that takes Megan back to a deeply-buried memory which she has long been running from.

Twenty-four hours later, retired Detective Riley Denton is found dead at home. His death is deemed a tragic accident. He fell down the stairs and had no enemies. Why would anyone want him dead? But Megan feels sure there is a link to the deaths and there is only one person she can trust with her theory.

Calling in the help of her partner
Detective Ronnie Marsh, they start to piece together a link that places Megan right at the centre of a deadly plot. As they race to find the killer before they strike closer to home, a string of murder victims going back years starts to emerge. And when Megan discovers how the murders are linked, she has to finally accept a dark truth she has spent her life running from.

A killer from her past is back just like they promised and they will stop at nothing to take everything she loves. Can Megan stop them dead in their tracks or will she pay the ultimate price?

A totally addictive mystery thriller that will have you racing to the end, from a number one, New York TimesWall Street Journal and Amazon Charts bestselling author. Perfect for fans of Robert Dugoni, Michael Connelly and James Patterson.

MY THOUGHTS:

Title:   Final Victim
Author:  Gregg Olsen
Series:  Detective Megan Carpenter #6
Publisher:  Bookouture
Genre:   Mystery & Thrillers
Format:  Kindle ARC
No. of Pages:   314

My Rating:   5 Stars

“First, policemen started being arrested for murders, and now policemen were increasingly being murdered.”

Detective Megan Carpenter is no stranger to murder, both personally and professionally. Mostly working alone as her partner Ronnie is home with family after their last difficult case. Investigating the case of a murdered detective, Susan Dupont, is disconcerting to Megan. Furthermore, as gruesome as the murder was, the fact that Dupont’s body had been strategically laid across the dividing line of two counties is utterly shocking to Megan and her team.

Even within twenty-four hours, another detective’s body is discovered. While it appears to be an unfortunate accident, Megan is certain that there’s a connection between the deaths of both detectives. Despite her deep involvement in the investigation, Megan has a personal matter that demands her immediate attention. Not only is Morgan being stalked by a man named Wallace, but a revelation about Megan’s past could shock even her partner, Ronnie.

When Ronnie joins Megan on the case, she realizes she must navigate the delicate balance between her professional and personal life, especially as that line starts to blur rapidly. Despite Ronnie’s assistance and her unwavering loyalty to Megan, her inner demons begin to resurface. I thoroughly enjoyed the constant struggle between good and evil.

This book by Gregg Olsen is a thrilling and fast-paced read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s a brilliant book that made me uncomfortable more than once, which is a testament to excellent writing, an intriguing plot and likable characters.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
