MY THOUGHTS
Dr. Ryan Palmer is on call when six-year-old Sam is rushed into the emergency department after being shot. Ryan immediately feels a connection to the little boy and becomes protective of him. At first, though, he wonders if the woman who brought Sam in, Matti Colton, is somehow responsible for his injuries.
Matti quickly explains that she is a social worker who was with Sam when he was shot. Someone opened fire at the police station, and Sam was caught in the middle of it. While Matti is determined to protect Sam at all costs, she is also guarding her own heart - and for very good reason.
As it turns out, the danger doesn’t end with Sam’s arrival at the hospital. Someone is willing to go to any extreme to hurt this sweet little boy again. Matti and Ryan share a powerful determination to make sure that doesn’t happen.
Any time there is a child in a story, especially an innocent and vulnerable child, the story really grabs me. This book has a heartbreaking beginning, but it also starts with plenty of tension - and that tension never lets up. Sandra Owens does a wonderful job building an unbreakable bond between Matti, Ryan, and Sam while keeping the suspense moving.
I listened to this one as an audiobook, and the tension was palpable. I especially enjoyed watching Ryan and Matti come together as they fought to keep Sam safe. A touching romantic suspense with a little boy who absolutely steals the show!
Many thanks to Harlequin Audio and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
