DESCRIPTION:
Federal Investigator Aaron Falk is on his way to a small town deep in Southern Australian wine country for the christening of an old friend's baby. But mystery follows him, even on vacation.
This weekend marks the one-year anniversary of Kim Gillespie's disappearance. One year ago, at a busy town festival on a warm spring night, Kim safely tucked her sleeping baby into her stroller, then vanished into the crowd. No one has seen her since. When Kim's older daughter makes a plea for anyone with information about her missing mom to come forward, Falk and his old buddy Raco can't leave the case alone.
As Falk soaks up life in the lush valley, he is welcomed into the tight-knit circle of Kim’s friends and loved ones. But the group may be more fractured than it seems. Between Falk’s closest friend, the missing mother, and a woman he’s drawn to, dark questions linger as long-ago truths begin to emerge. What would make a mother abandon her child? What happened to Kim Gillespie?

MY THOUGHTS:
“We see what we expect to see.”
Aaron Falk is a federal investigator ready to enjoy some downtime. His friend Greg Falco’s baby is about to be christened, and Aaron heads to Greg’s home to share in this blessed occasion. But, as Aaron has experienced in the past, things aren’t as innocent as they seem. Beyond the joys of the christening of a baby Aaron soon learns that danger and secrets abound. Aaron finds the time he will be spending in the beautiful South Australian wine county to be one of secrets and danger.
As this is the final book in the Aaron Falk trilogy, it was nice to see Aaron thinking in terms of a different lifestyle than he has been living. I love his character, and especially in this book. He is shown to be a good friend to Greg, while also considering his demanding job. Could Aaron balance his busy and often dangerous career with a home, wife and family?
There is a missing woman named Kim, someone from his past. This book opens more of Aaron’s past and of his connection to both Greg and Kim. Plot-driven stories are wonderful in that there are often nonstop actions and twists. Instead this series has focused on “Aaron the man” vs. Aaron the federal agent. Then there is the setting in this story. There is definitely a small-town vibe, and one with beauty, as well as with Aaron’s friendship and his hopes of a calmer future.
Many thanks to Pan Macmillan and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
