BLOG TOUR - The New Marriage

DESCRIPTION:

They seem so happy. It’s all a lie…

THE WIFE:
My hands shake as I hand Mark his coffee, his rich caramel eyes heavy after another sleepless night. I know he’s hiding something, and it’s bad.

But then again, so am I. Under our bed there’s an envelope containing a secret that would turn our lives upside down, and that’s just the start. Mark doesn’t even know my real name.

I’m sure I can trust him, but there are things I can’t tell anyone. And Mark must never know the reason why we met, so soon after his first wife died…

THE HUSBAND:
I take the steaming mug from Drew, remembering the first time I saw her by the hospital coffee machine. She was grieving too and now we have a second chance at happiness.

But now I know what she’s been hiding in that box of old photographs, where she thought I’d never look. My wife has been lying about who she is.

I know Drew is scared and I’m going to find out why. But she clearly has no idea how far I’ll go for the people I love. Or the truth about what happened to my last wife…

A totally unputdownable and unbelievably twisty story of betrayal, lies and secrets that will have you gripped to every page and open-mouthed at the twists. Perfect for fans of K.L. Slater, Teresa Driscoll and Freida McFadden.

MY THOUGHTS:

Imagine finding a winning lottery ticket for nearly $1 million on a park bench, with no idea who the previous owner was. Would you claim it?

This is exactly what happens to Drew Reynolds. Her new marriage to Mark is already strained, and claiming the lottery ticket would thrust her into the spotlight. Drew is Mark’s second wife, and his sister Sarah disapproves of her presence, seeing her as an interloper. On a larger scale, Drew and Mark are struggling financially and are at risk of losing their home. Keeping the ticket’s true origin a secret is a lie, but it’s not the only one Drew has told Mark. It’s not the only lie she’s living.

The winning prize could solve many of Drew and Mark’s problems, but she knows it’s not an option. The decision of how much to tell Mark is overwhelming, all while Sarah is determined to prove that Mark’s marriage to Drew was a mistake.

This domestic drama is a compelling and multi-layered story with intriguing characters. Lies are the central theme, along with the mystery of their motives and the long-term consequences of living a life filled with secrets and deception. L. G. Davis’s latest book offers excellent pacing and intense drama, with an easy connection to at least some of the characters.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Liz's story began in a refugee camp in Angola, where she spent the first eight years of her life. After that, she spent some years in Namibia (her home country), South Africa, and Germany. She now lives in Vienna, Austria, with her husband and two children. Liz wrote her first full-length novel at eighteen and hid it in a box under her bed. Several others soon followed it. Her passion lies in writing edge-of-the-seat psychological thrillers that give readers the same rush they would get on a rollercoaster.
