DESCRIPTION:
Gretchen Ross, white-haired and wrapped in a blanket, watches the nurses working around her. Lately, she cannot stem the memories of a long-hidden past. Memories of a tumbledown white cottage overlooking the loch, a beautiful child loved and lost, and a regret buried for decades…
When Lottie Fox escapes to the heather-strewn hills of Loch Cameron, she is still heart-sore after the man she thought she’d spend her life with upped and left. Visiting the elderly residents of the village care home to ask for their help tracing local history is the perfect distraction. And soon Lottie is drawn to the outspoken, twinkly-eyed Gretchen.
Senior in years but still young at heart, Gretchen’s outrageous stories bring Lottie out of her shell. And meeting Fred Mackenzie in the village bookstore, with his kind eyes and floppy hair, Lottie starts to think about the future again. She even brings Fred to meet her new friend, Gretchen, and is totally charmed by his care for the elderly lady.
But there’s one story Gretchen has never shared. When Lottie confides in her about how lonely she once was, she realises that Gretchen is desperate to share her own heartbreaking tale of a great love, and a devastating betrayal.
Then Gretchen is rushed to hospital. The last thing she whispers to grief-stricken Lottie is how she must take the blue leather-bound photo album tucked away on her bookshelf. The secrets Lottie and Fred find inside could upend everything Lottie thought she knew about Gretchen, and shatter the community Lottie has come to know and love in the village…
Fans of Debbie Macomber, Rachel Hanna and Mary Alice Monroe will be totally swept away to the Scottish Highlands in this heartbreaking tale full of family secrets.

Title: Lost Memories of the Cottage by the Loch Author: Kennedy Kerr
Series: Loch Cameron Book #7
Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: Women’s Fiction; Romance
Date of Publication: March 10, 2025
My Rating: 5 Stars
MY THOUGHTS:
Lottie Fox, in an open relationship with Tristan, accepted that they could date others without any issues. As their relationship blossomed, Lottie began to develop feelings for Tristan, but unfortunately, her feelings were not reciprocated. In fact, he leaves her. To help recover from that deep emotional cut, she travels to Loch Cameron in order to help some of its elderly residents to sort out history from the past. This endeavor will help Lottie towards her Masters degree.
Lottie’s studies have her focusing on elders and intergenerational work, which is a project where she collects life stories from people at a care home. One of these residents is an elderly woman named Gretchen. Gretchen has a story that needs to be told, and Lottie just might be the one that she shares that story with.
The more Lottie hears, the deeper the story goes. She definitely feels a kinship with Gretchen. However, Gretchen’s poor health is a serious factor. Gretchen can be rather circumspect, but Lottie doesn’t give up learning her story.
All while healing from her broken heart, Lottie finds that there are dating opportunities, so she might just decide to broaden her horizons. However, what I really gained from this book is the profound effect that Gretchen had on Lottie. That will stay with me for quite a while. Gretchen’s story was heartbreaking, especially as this book touched on some deep and impactful subjects. Kennedy Kerr’s seventh book in the Loch Cameron series was just as wonderful as the previous books in the series.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Kennedy Kerr is a USA Today Bestselling fiction author. She adores beaches, lochs and stone circles, and loves writing about small communities, mysteries and family secrets. She has a very cuddly cat called Twinkle who spends her days sleeping: Kennedy aspires to having Twinkle's nap schedule one day.
Kennedy also loves cooking and baking all types of food, which is almost as much fun as eating it. Her favourite foods include (but are not limited to) Indian food, Victoria sponge, breakfast pastries with coffee and sushi. The only thing she's not particularly keen on is artichoke, and she'd eat it, anyway.
