BLOG TOUR - My Sister’s Boyfriend

  DESCRIPTION:

“I’m going to make you like me, Lizzie,” my sister’s new boyfriend sneers. I arrange my features into a pleasant mask, willing myself not to look anxiously for the door. He thinks he’s always one step ahead, but he has no idea how far I’ll go to protect my family…

Noel never should have been released from prison. My job helping ex-prisoners turn over a new leaf usually warms my heart, but as soon as I lock eyes with Noel the skin along the nape of my neck prickles. He wasn’t locked up for a petty crime; it was manslaughter. And now he’s dating my sister.

Brooke says she’s never met a man who makes her feel so cherished and protected. That a single brush of his hand makes her heart flutter. A knight in shining armor who will finally lay to rest the twisted secrets in her past.

But he whispers words to me that Brooke can’t hear. Words that sound like threats. And I do the one thing I know I shouldn’t: I search through his prison files to find out all his secrets. And with trembling hands I discover that he didn’t kill his brother by accident…

Noel has no idea what I’m capable of. He could never imagine the darkness that lurks in our family. The things we’ll do to protect our own.

I nearly lost Brooke once, and I’ll never let that happen again…

An addictive, page-turning psychological thriller from USA Today bestseller Nicola Marsh. Fans of The Housemaid, Lisa Jewell and Mark Edwards will feel their hearts race as they find twist after twist!

MY THOUGHTS:

With tension pretty much from the very first scene, I was surprised to discover that My Sister’s Boyfriend is a sequel to My Sister’s Husband. Going into this book blind, as I tend to do with authors that I really enjoy, I was pulled right into the story even though I did not read the first book.

The story begins when Lizzie’s sister Brooke has a new boyfriend. It is not simply the fact that Brooke has a boyfriend. His name is Noel. The issue that Lizzie has is that she knows Noel and the last thing she wants is her sister to be involved with him. Brooke has her own issues and having Noel in her life is making her happy. No doubt Brooke is concerned when Lizzie tries to warn her away from Noel.

As this is a psychological thriller, it should come to no surprise that there are secrets and hidden pasts in this story. Which character has the secrets and why was an intriguing story to watch unfold. I like how the drama played out in this story, especially as we see Brooke trying to keep it together so that she can protect Brooke.

In all honesty, my curiosity is piqued. I plan on reading both books in order, and this does include this book that is being reviewed now. I’d like to see the entire picture. Nonetheless, for the sake of this review, I have to take this time to applaud Nicola Marsh for writing such a thrilling story, one that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
