BLOG TOUR - The Royal Daughter

DESCRIPTION:

“My darling B, my heart, my soul. I only wish we’d had longer. Longer to search for the daughter that I should never have given up. The daughter that I should have been brave enough to keep, brave enough to tell you about, brave enough to tell the world about.”

London, present day. As Ella looks down at a faded black and white photograph of an unknown woman and child alongside a yellowing piece of sheet music, she wonders how the two things can possibly relate to her own family. The items were left for her family at Hope’s House, a home for unmarried mothers whose babies were adopted.

Soon Ella learns that the photograph was taken on the picturesque Greek island of Skopelos, nestled in the turquoise calming waters of the Aegean sea, and that the woman in the photo holds the key to her family’s heritage. As she opens up to her new flame Gabriel, he tells her that she should go to the island to unravel the mystery and that he will wait for her.

Though Ella is torn she decides to go and once there, she discovers a heart-wrenching story of a royal family forced to leave their country for a new life in London, and of a girl with a unique talent for music who captured the heart of a young violinist but was forced to leave him and London behind for the sake of her family.

When Ella discovers the sacrifice made by the two young lovers and comes face to face with her forgotten Greek family, will their story give her the courage to follow her own heart back to London and Gabriel, or will the beauty of the island capture her heart and lead her to a new love altogether?

A totally addictive and heartbreaking novel about the strength of family ties and never giving up on true love. Perfect for fans of Santa Montefiore, Lucinda Riley and Victoria Hislop.

MY THOUGHTS:

Title:   The Royal Daughter
Author:  Soraya M. Lane
Series:  The Lost Daughters #3
Publisher:  Bookouture
Genre:   Historical Fiction
Format:  Kindle ARC
No. of Pages:   295
Date of Publication:   October 12, 2023
My Rating:   5 Stars

The Italian Daughter and The Cuban Daughter are the first two books in the touching Lost Daughter series by Soraya Lane. Both stories were wonderfully warm and inviting. Ms. Lane writes an equally effective story with this book, The Royal Daughter. In book one in this series, we learn of Hope’s House, which was a home for unwed mothers. In that book, Lily was able to learn of her past and how she was connected to the home. In book two, Claudia was able to unravel the secret of her past.

This third book, which could be read as a standalone, tells how Ella travels to a beautiful Greek island in her quest to discovering the story of an old black-and-white photograph. In this dual timeline story, readers join Ella as she tries to discover if she has a grandmother that she never knew. This grandmother, whom we learned is named Alexandra, suffered great heartbreak when she was sent to Hope’s House.

When Ella receives the photograph, just as she meets a man named Gabriel, who just might be her future, she knows she must go to Greece to find answers. As the story shifts to the past, we learn of Alexandra In 1973 who was forced to make a very difficult sacrifice. She had a beautiful love story that ended up in heartbreak.

One thing that I really enjoyed about this story was its connection to classical music as well as art, all while finding the secrets of the heart and following the heart, even after disappointing circumstances. This was a very compelling read, one that I read from cover to cover in one sitting. This lovely story was quite captivating and had a very warm ending. I very much look forward to book four in the series, The Sapphire Daughter, set for release next March.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
